New Poll Shows American Support For Israel At Near-Record High

A new Gallup poll released Wednesday showed that 63% of Americans say their sympathies in the Middle East situation lie more with the Israelis than with the Palestinians, a near record high for U.S. support for Israel.

The poll, which surveyed 1,025 adults February 1 - 3, also showed that only 15% said their sympathies lie with the Palestinians. Another 23% either support both sides equally or don’t support either side at all.

GOP Leaders Question White House Health Care Summit Goals

In advance of a planned summit between President Barack Obama and Congressional leaders to address health care reform legislation, several key Republicans are raising questions about the aims of the meeting.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Wednesday renewed his call for Obama to scrap his health care reform proposal in advance of the meeting.

Perry Holds Big Lead Heading Into Texas GOP Gubernatorial Primary

With less than a week before the primary elections in Texas, incumbent Governor Rick Perry holds a big lead over Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, in Texas’ Republican gubernatorial primary race in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey.

According to the poll, Perry holds a 48% to 27% lead over Hutchison among Texas Republican voters. Tea Party activist Debra Medina has 16% support.

Toyota Chief Faults Rapid Expansion For Safety Failures

Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), told a House panel Wednesday that the company’s recent rapid expansion was partly at fault for quality failures that have led to the recall of millions of vehicles.

Toyoda, speaking before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he took personal responsibility for the problems, including uncontrolled acceleration in some models and brake problems in the Prius hybrid.

Sebelius Invites Health Insurance Executives To Meeting

In light of recent news that health insurers are planning large increases in premiums, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Wednesday invited insurance company chief executive officers to a March 3 meeting to discuss their premiums.
