Toyota Chief Faults Rapid Expansion For Safety Failures

Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), told a House panel Wednesday that the company’s recent rapid expansion was partly at fault for quality failures that have led to the recall of millions of vehicles.

Toyoda, speaking before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he took personal responsibility for the problems, including uncontrolled acceleration in some models and brake problems in the Prius hybrid.

Perry Holds Big Lead Heading Into Texas GOP Gubernatorial Primary

With less than a week before the primary elections in Texas, incumbent Governor Rick Perry holds a big lead over Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, in Texas’ Republican gubernatorial primary race in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey.

According to the poll, Perry holds a 48% to 27% lead over Hutchison among Texas Republican voters. Tea Party activist Debra Medina has 16% support.
